Founded on the ideals of community centered care for women and families.

Catskills Birth Collective is a synthesis of ancient, traditional wisdom and up-to-date scientific research. Our philosophy is rooted in trusting the divine wisdom of mother nature and our innate ability to grow and birth children with ease and grace.

We are inspired daily to serve and support women and their families through these beautiful processes of birth, growth, and revitalization. Offering empowering education and heart centered care, we bring our hearts and minds together to provide the support we know our community needs.

Who We Are

Sara Philkill

CANCER SUN, WATER LOVING MAMA OF THREE.

From an early age, Sara knew her life’s mission was to serve mothers and families during the child bearing years.

Now a mother of three home birthed children herself, she understands the necessity of community and mother centered care deeper than ever has before. Her goal is to strengthen the fabric that weaves families together, so that some day (in the near future), mother centered postpartum care becomes the standard.

Her dream is for mothers of all walks of life to give themselves permission to receive the nurturing and information that everyone deserves and to access their ancestral knowledge of how to birth and mother.

Aside from wrestling with her kiddos, she loves to swim, dance and create things, including (but not limited to) shampoo bars, moon pads, and delicious snacks!

According to her oldest daughter (4 years old), “She likes a lot of things but a lot of the things I don’t know what she likes. She likes to dance with the baby and pick flowers outside and she does a lot of stuff. Why do you want to know what she likes? Is this so you can help people give birth to their babies?”

Maible Coughlin

ARIES SUN, HERB NERD/KITCHEN WITCH.

I feel deeply humbled to be in service to beautiful families in the midst of such a powerful process, and to work with women who so deeply trust this process, and more importantly trust themselves. I hold space for mothers to birth and nourish their families in the way that feels best for them with compassion and an open heart.

After discovering my passion for supporting women and families through pregnancy, birth and postpartum through a serendipitous encounter at a cafe in Alaska (a story for another time), I began reading, researching and learning all that I could about supporting fertility, nourished pregnancies, physiological birth, traditions and philosophies on the postpartum time. With insatiable curiosity, I continued my training as a birth and postpartum doula, an Ayurvedic postpartum care giver, and finally at Indie Birth Midwifery School.

Having my own little one has deepened my path and service. This work is not only about creating healthy, resilient, sovereign families, but in assisting to midwife a shift of consciousness through strengthening and centering the mother-baby dyad in this most vulnerable and impactful time. The way babies come into this world matters, and holding that space with the highest reverence, stillness, and gentleness creates ripples that can be felt throughout the world.

We are also students of Maestro Manuel Rufino, a Taino spiritual elder. Our training with our teachers and traditions helps us to bring forward a grounded, non judgemental, heart centered approach to care.

Our goal is to help mothers nurture themselves deeply so they can use motherhood as a catalyst for growth and strength.
