Postpartum Cooking

Ayurvedic Inspired, Ancestral Based

Home cooked meals that nourish and heal

The  postpartum time is a potent portal for transformation. It is a unique time period in your life known in Ayurveda as a kaya kalpa, “body transformation”. This is a time when our bodies are given the opportunity to reset and re-center. Called the Sacred window in Ayurveda, these first 42 days after birth are a magical time to rest and be nourished, which can set the tone for your energy and health.

Your body needs specific nourishment to allow you to come out of this time feeling strong and well nourished. And many families today lack both the community or village structure that would traditionally provide the needed support, and the wisdom of what is needed in this time. Breastfeeding, postpartum mothers need more calories than a pregnant woman, and in a time when it has never been harder to feed yourself well.

How it works:

  • We set up a free consultation to go over your needs and preferences

  • I create an individualized menu once a week, custom-tailored to your family’s needs and the state of your healing and digestion.

  • I go grocery shopping for you at farmers markets, grocery stores, and sometimes sources produce and meat directly from local, organic farms

  • I cook all your meals with lots of love and package them up! I will freeze some meals as requested, or bring them fresh.

  • I deliver everything to your house with labels and instructions. I can come in and pack your fridge for you, or just leave it at the door.

  • You enjoy a weeks worth of postpartum nourishment, then leave glass jars out at the next delivery. (Or I will come pick up jars if you don’t have any deliveries scheduled.)

  • "I could feel the loving intention in the food she made me and I am so grateful that she was there for me."

  • "Maible is very knowledgeable about what is supportive to the postpartum mom, especially regarding nourishing and digestible foods, but was also a wonderful listener and observer, tuning in to what my particular needs were."

    Stephanie

  • "Maible was so helpful during my sacred postpartum time. She cooked delicious meals that made me feel nourished and supported. My favorite recipe was the shiitake mushroom ramen."

    Danica

  • "For me the postpartum time, while of course challenging at times, was overall a beautiful opportunity to reset. And a lot of that was due to having postpartum support."

details and logistics

packages + pricing

Check out the three different package options and pricing. I also offer a discount for families who commit to working with me for multiple weeks.

when to begin

Up to you, but often the most support is needed in the first few weeks. My meal plans are tailored for how many weeks postpartum you are and how your digestion is feeling. Some women also appreciate this support in the last weeks of pregnancy to prepare for birth.

delivery

I cook your food with love in my own kitchen, then will bring it to your doorstep! Most foods will be in glass jars, which I will pick up at the next delivery. There is a $1.50 deposit for each jar. I will deliver once or twice a week, depending on your package.

diets + allergies

I am happy to accommodate most diets. During our consultation, we can go over what your diet looks like, and foods that you may or may not prefer. I am happy to make foods that are gluten free, dairy free, vegetarian, or avoid certain allergens.

free consultation

Before I start to cook for you, we will schedule a consultation to discuss which package will be right for you, and so I can get an idea of your food preferences. I will also send a questionnaire so I can begin to craft a meal plan perfectly tailored to you.

fresh + frozen

While food has the most healing potential when fresh, having delicious food ready to go in the freezer can be a game changer. I can deliver most things either fresh or frozen, so you could get the best of both worlds.

I adore postpartum cooking; feeding new moms feeds me in such a special way.

Having experienced what true nourishment feels like in my own postpartum time, it became clear to me how essential it was to make this available for others. From my background in ayurvedic postpartum care, I have supported many women through this transition with lovingly prepared food, and meal planning and preparation.

guiding principles

Ayurvedic inspired

I take the principles of ayurvedic postpartum cooking and can apply them to foods from all cultures and nationalities. The best postpartum food is the food that makes you feel held and nourished. In general, postpartum food is warm, easy to digest, and made with warming spices.

quality ingredients

I prefer to focus on local, high quality ingredients in my food. This can include things like organic ghee, local eggs from pastured chickens, raw milk, and home made broths. I love to incorporate medicinal herbs into my cooking as well.

supporting the whole family

The postpartum time is a big transition for the whole family. Both parents need the opportunity to reorient, bond with this new baby, and be together in this special bubble. There’s more than enough for a partner to do while you rest and heal without having to cook.

fully customized

Don’t like a certain spice? Can’t get enough asparagus? All of my recipes are adaptable to your palate and preferences. I will send a list of menu options for you to choose from each week, so you can create your own menu!

made for mamas

Most meals and snacks will enough for a mama with leftovers for the next day (lunch the next day!) or can be shared with a partner/children. However, the qualities of the food are specific to what mom’s digestion needs postpartum, so I suggest saving it for her!

building bommunity

Traditionally, the whole community came together to support growing families. I am happy to teach friends and family who want to know more about supporting you in your postpartum time, or help you set up a meal train or other postpartum support. Reach out and let’s talk!
